What is Web Hosting?

Web hosting is a service provided by a company that gives businesses and individuals the ability to put a website or web page on to the Internet. The web hosting company provides the computer servers and technology needed for the website or web page to be viewed on the Internet 24/7. The website files that you create for your website are stored on the computer server of the hosting company and through their servers, they are able to make your website viewable on the Internet.

Your first step is to get a domain name, i.e. web address , then sign up with a web hosting company so you can use the domain name that you have chosen for your business. Now create your files using such software platforms as WordPress or DreamWeaver HTML Site Editor. (you can design your own website or hire a designer to do it for you) The popular and non-tech website designer platform that is popular today is WordPress. There are many themes and designs to choose from. (Oftentimes, you can get both your domain name and web hosting service from the same company. However, you can get a domain name for example from GoDaddy and then sign up with a different web hosting company. Your web hosting company will be able to connect your domain name with their computer servers.

When Internet users want to see your website, all they need to do is to type in your domain name, i.e. www.yourdomainname.com
